Muhlenberg County Student Recognized in 2024 “I Love My KY County” Art Contest

POWDERLY, Ky – The Muhlenberg County Judge Executive Office and the Muhlenberg County Tourism Commission is thrilled to announce that the artwork of Cruz Melton, a student at Greenville Elementary School, has been selected as a grade winner in the 2024 “I Love My KY County” Art Contest, hosted by the Kentucky Association of Counties (KACo).




This year’s contest drew over 600 submissions from students across Kentucky, all showcasing their love for their Kentucky county home. Among the winners, talented Cruz, was chosen as the second-grade winner, whose art piece showcases Happy Malone at Lake Malone State Park. This artwork was highlighted at the 50th annual KACo Conference & Exposition. All winners will be featured in an upcoming issue of County Line magazine and the 2025 KACo calendar.


On November 26, 2024, Cruz was officially recognized, alongside his family and Greenville Elementary educators, on a special edition of the GES Blackhawk News by the Muhlenberg County Judge Executive-Mack McGehee, Muhlenberg County Tourism Commission, and special guest Happy Malone, for his outstanding accomplishment. “This is a proud moment for Muhlenberg County,” said Misty Stanley, Director of MCTC. “Cruz has beautifully captured

the essence of what makes our community special. It is exciting to see children being proud of their home and sharing it with others, helping to encourage visitors and promote the unique charm of Muhlenberg County. We are thrilled to see his work celebrated on a statewide platform and deeply grateful for his contribution to promoting the Big Twigs at Lake

Malone State Park.”


The Muhlenberg County Judge Executive Office and Muhlenberg County Tourism Commission extends heartfelt congratulations to Cruz Melton for his creative achievement. Special thanks are also due to the educators, families, and supporters who nurture and inspire young artists.
