Hurricane Helene

Hurricane Helene is on her way through the Gulf of Mexico this morning. Expectations are that it will be a high level Category 3 or Category 4 storm when it slams into the Florida panhandle near St. Marks, Florida later today. With this storm, Tropical Storm Warnings extend all the way to the Metro Atlanta region and Flash Flood Warnings for the Smoky Mountain region are all in effect. Forecast models have shown over 12+ inches of rain for a good portion of Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and parts of East Tennessee. The system is expect to enter the Tri-State region late tonight with rain developing east to west. Rain totals for Western Kentucky are in the 2-5 inch rage with higher totals near the KY-TN border.

What Does This Mean For The Weekend?

This Friday will be a wash but temps will be mild with gusty winds near 40mph. Saturday, the remnants will still be in the area as the system merges with a surface low. This will continue the rain chances into Saturday and Saturday night. Temps will continue to be mild through he remainder of the weekend. If you have outdoor weekend plans, it would be to your advantage to monitor the weather so that you can plan accordingly.
