GREENVILLE, KY- Officials with the Muhlenberg County Airport Board, Madisonville Community College, & Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear were at Muhlenberg County Airport Wednesday morning to cut the ribbon on a new $2.7 million dollar hangar. This hangar, which will house the Madisonville Community College Aviation Program, is the first in a number of improvements planned at the airport. Projects that are on the list include this hangar along with improvements and extension of the taxiways/ramp area. The new hangar will house the Aviation Program at Madisonville Community College. This program allows students to begin the process of becoming a pilot. The program, while new, has grown considerably in the past couple of years. An Aviation Mechanic program is also planned for the facility. Funding for the project was provided through the Kentucky Department of Aviation, The FAA, Delta Region Authority, The Muhlenberg County Fiscal Court, The Felix E. Martin Jr. Foundation, & Muhlenberg County Airport (M21)
The Muhlenberg County Airport saw almost 9,100 aircraft movements in 2020 and continues to be a regional innovator in airfield diversification. Manager Ed Tackett said "the airport offers a convenient location for enroute stops, offering competitive fuel prices." Tackett said, "the airport offers easy and rapid turnaround" for aircraft that a passing through. For those that are overnighting in Muhlenberg County, the airport offers tie-down and other amenities.
